Ardour is another 100% free and open-source software. Though it’s not as insanely popular as Audacity (for a reason), it’s a far more advanced digital audio workstation than Audacity will probably ever be.
This is also the reason why it’s not crazily popular. Audacity caters to everyone, including someone like my wife, who knows absolutely nothing about voiceover/sound engineering.
Still, Ardour caters to professionals and advanced voice artists, sound engineers, composers, and musicians who want greater control of their sound.
Ardour competes with the likes of Nuendo and Pro Tools. Also, it’s a video voiceover software, so you can import videos, extract soundtracks, lock audio regions to the video: Move audio regions with the video at video-frame granularity, and so much more.
