Voice Over Apps

They’re probably over 100 voice over apps on the market today, with everyone promising to capture and produce better audio than their next-door competition. Choosing the best voiceover software for your needs can get confusing.

So today, in this blog post, we’re going to look at some of the most potent voiceover programs in the market that are heavily supported and used by the community, especially those used to create hugely successful projects.

We’ll also make the apps with voiceover editing capabilities; I don’t think a voiceover app is complete if it doesn’t make a voiceover editor functionalities; it just really sucks.

And here’s one other thing I must bring up, especially for new voice artists, some of the free voice over apps you’ll get are the best and easiest to use, and we’ll mention them below.

They’re perfect for beginners, so don’t be in a hurry to blow a big hole in your bank account to get the costliest software out there even if it’s on our list.

We encourage you to start with free ones, master them and become a pro before spending money on the super-advanced voice recording software.

Let’s get started.

BEST VOICE OVER RECORDING SOFTWARE

To be examined below are the best voice over apps that you can trust for your recording project.

#1: Audacity

Voice Over Apps

It’s always going to keep a #1 position on my list, not because it’s the most advanced/complex to use but because of these reasons.

  • It’s 100% free to use and open source.

  • It’s the EASIEST to use; a beginner can learn and master it in a couple of days.

  • It’s better than many of the paid software and puts a severe dent on some of the more advanced software costing hundreds and thousands of dollars to purchase a license.

  • It requires very few settings and tuning to pump out high-quality audio.

  • It’s heavily supported, with constant updates and a large community, you’ll always find a help/answer for your question.

Don’t let the simplicity deceive you; the power is actually in its simplicity; I encourage every new voiceover actor to start with Audacity.

#2: Ardour

Free voice over app

Ardour is another 100% free and open-source software. Though it’s not as insanely popular as Audacity (for a reason), it’s a far more advanced digital audio workstation than Audacity will probably ever be.

This is also the reason why it’s not crazily popular. Audacity caters to everyone, including someone like my wife, who knows absolutely nothing about voiceover/sound engineering.

Still, Ardour caters to professionals and advanced voice artists, sound engineers, composers, and musicians who want greater control of their sound.

Ardour competes with the likes of Nuendo and Pro Tools. Also, it’s a video voiceover software, so you can import videos, extract soundtracks, lock audio regions to the video: Move audio regions with the video at video-frame granularity, and so much more.

There’s so much you can do here.

#3: Avid Pro Tools

If you’re looking for one of the voiceover programs used in making the topping charts on the Billboard Hot 100, check out Avid Pro Tools.

It’s more than a voice-over software; it’s a music-making toolbox.

And if you want it, you should always go all the way for the Ultimate for the best deal; it’s probably the best mixing and mastering software you’ll use; it can take a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure it out, it’s a joy to use.

#4: FL Studio

FL Studio is another powerhouse digital audio workstation used for a complete movie, music, and voiceover production; it’s been used for many animated movie voiceovers and chart-topping hit singles.

It’s more supported and easier to learn than Avid Pro Tools.

If you want to purchase and have the budget, go for the FL Studio + All Plugins Bundle.

#5: Adobe Audition

Voice over video editor

This software is powerful enough to handle any voiceover recording, editing, or mixing requirements you may have.

Adobe Audition has a built-in spectrum analyzer and noise reduction software, which can help clean up voiceover projects and make them sound great.

Also, it’s part of the adobe creative cloud, so if you’re using tools after-effects and premiere pro to make videos, working with audition might be very complimentary.

#6: Nuendo

If you’re creating voiceovers for games, animated movies, cartoon films, or news broadcasts, then Nuendo is perfect; other if you’re making basic voiceovers for explainer videos, social media posts, and ads, this digital audio workstation (which is also quite pricey) is overkill as it’s heavily optimized for ADR.

#7: GarageBand

GarageBand is free and available on all Apple Mac computers exclusively.

It’s just as easy to use as Audacity, so anyone can learn it almost overnight and start using it.

#8: Reaper

Voice Over Apps

A powerful voice recording and music-making software without all the bs that come with the advanced digital audio workstations.

What sets Reaper apart is its “noise gate” feature for removing background noises or just typically isolating any sound you want to get rid of if you’re looking to produce a high-quality, crisp audio recording without all the fuss and complexity of a DAW, get Reaper, and it’s also very affordable.

#9: LMMS

A 100% free open source digital audio workstation, very powerful and perfect for voiceover productions. It has 16 built-in synthesizers, including emulations of Roland ® TB-303, Commodore 64 ® SID microchip, Nintendo ® NES and GameBoy, Yamaha ® OPL2 chip, and more.

#10: Ableton Live

Voice over maker

This software is in the Avid Pro Tools and FL Studio class, but their Wavetables are set apart.

Wavetable is a new synthesizer built by Ableton. Shape, stretch and morph sounds using wavetables derived from analog synths, a range of other instruments and sounds or use a sample in your library to create your own.

Sculpt sounds right away – even without a deep knowledge of synthesis – or explore its rich palette through an intuitive interface.

This software is humongous and can be overkill if you’re making basic voiceovers, but if you’re making music or voiceovers for movies, animated films, and TV/radio broadcasts, you’ll fall in love with this software.

Here are other voice over apps you may find complementary and can easily carry along with your essential voiceover software:

  • Wavvoiceoverd
  • OcenAudio

  • AudioHighjack

  • DubMe

  • Audio Evolution Mobile Studio

Now, record some incredible sounds using any of the discussed Voice Over Apps to your satisfaction, rooting for you!
